Bureau of Indian Standards is a statutory body functioning under the aegis of Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India. It operates various schemes like Product Certification (ISI mark), Management Systems Certification, Hall Marking of Gold and Silver Jewellery/Artefacts and Laboratory Services for the benefit of the industry and in turn aiming at consumer protection.

Bureau of Indian Standards, Chennai Branch Office (CNBO ) organised a Jeweller awareness programme on Hallmarking today, 10.08.23,Thursday at Hotel Avinsree Grand, Mayiladuthurai.

Jewellers Association President and around 30 Jewellers from in and around Mayiladuthurai attended the awareness programme.

Shri. D Jeevanandam, Joint Director , BIS, Chennai Branch Office welcomed the Jewellers explained the programme objectives. He explained the importance of Hallmarking Scheme and how Hallmarking Scheme Started and how it has evolved over the years. Later in his technical presentation, Shri. D Jeevanandam explained BIS Hallmarking Scheme & Procedures, Hallmarking Rules & Regulation, Responsibilities of Jewelers, Elements of Indian Standard (IS 1417 & IS 2112) & Amendments, HUID in Brief, Online Registration, Introduction demo in manakonline portal etc.,

Participants appreciated the BIS initiative on Jewellers Awareness meet. The Programme ended with vote of thanks.
