Dr. Virendra Kumar Inaugurates the new and accessible building of CRC, Ahmedabad

Dr. Virendra Kumar, Hon’ble Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India inaugurated the new building of the Composite Regional Centre (CRC), Ahmedabad today. The occasion was graced by Shri A. Narayanaswamy, Hon’ble Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment, Shri Vinod Chavda, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Kuchh, Gujarat and Shri Rajesh Aggarwal, Secretary, DEPwD among other dignitaries.

 

Speaking at the inaugural function Dr. Virendra Kumar reiterated the commitment of the Government towards ensuring the full inclusion and empowerment of every citizen. CRC, Ahmedabad can play a vital role in facilitating and reaching quality services of rehabilitation for PwDs. Our ministry is focused to reach each Divyangjan of our country. He also emphasized the education, employment, and skill development of Divyangjan through technology.

 

Shri A. Narayan Swamy on this occasion emphasized increasing the participation of Divyangjan in every walk of life be it for implementing policies that promote accessibility, education, employment opportunities, and healthcare services for Divyaangjan. Our aim is to remove physical and societal barriers that hinder their participation in various aspects of life. Our vision is to make all public spaces, transportation, and infrastructure accessible to people with disabilities. We are investing in accessible technology and resources to enhance their independence and mobility.

Secretary on this occasion opined that Department is actively working to create a conducive environment for Divyaangjan to thrive in the workforce. Encouraging inclusive hiring practices and offering reasonable accommodations it will enable them to contribute their talents and skills to the nation's economy.

Secretary also said that the Ministry aims to operationalise CRCs in every state of the country and to have 100 ALIMCO Centres in the coming financial year. Apart from other activities, the centre will implement Vayoshri Yojna. All the CRCs will initiate vocational training courses for persons with Disabilities in terms of Skill Development to impart the employability skill among all PwDs. The Department will also facilitate in providing Loans through NFHDC to unemployed Persons with Disabilities. The Government is also considering providing coaching to Persons with Disabilities for admissions in Higher Education as well as preparation for competitive examination.

The new building of CRC-Ahmedabad has a barrier free environment with ramps, lifts, braille facilities, and accessible toilets for persons with disabilities. The building has 44 rooms with a total carpet area of 3352.05 square meter, conference room, multipurpose hall along with spacious client waiting area for each department with facilities of P&O workshop, Physiotherapy & Occupational Therapy units. Special care has been taken in design to provide accessibility features for Divyangjan like accessible lifts and Ramps with railing. The building has been established with the vision of providing comprehensive rehabilitation services for all types of disabilities The empowerment of persons with disabilities has led to self-confidence among their families, leading to a self-reliant society and thus leading to Átmanirbhar Bharat’ he said. CRC-Ahmedabad has also initiated rehabilitation training courses in the field of special education, vocational training, and skill development to meet the demand for manpower for the rehabilitation of PwDs in the state of Gujarat. He also emphasized the need to manifest the spirit of patriotism among the youth and in every family of persons with disabilities as we are close to Independence Day through the display of ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ from the 13th to 15th August. Our aim in life should be to have ‘Sankalp se siddhi tak’ to manifest our abilities among persons with disabilities, said Dr Virendra Kumar, Hon’ble cabinet Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment speaking at the inaugural function.
