Promotion of Ayush

The Ministry of AYUSH is taking various initiatives for promoting Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homeopathy systems across the country. The highlights of such initiatives have been the following: -

  1. Ministry of AYUSH is implementing Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National AYUSH Mission (NAM) through State / UT Governments and providing financial assistance to them for development and promotion of AYUSH System as per the proposals received in their State Annual Action Plans (SAAPs). Further, Union Cabinet on 20.03.2020 has approved the proposal of the Ministry of AYUSH for upgradation of 12,500 Health facilities (10,000 AYUSH Dispensaries and 2500 Health sub-centres) into AYUSH Health and Wellness Centre under the Ayushman Bharat as a Component of National AYUSH Mission in a phased manner by the year 2023-24. The objective of the programme is to establish a holistic wellness model based on AYUSH principles and practices, to empower masses for “self-care” to reduce the disease burden, out of pocket expenditure and to provide informed choice to the needy public. During 2019-20, an amount of Rs. 49,490.917 Lakhs has been released as Central share to States / UTs for various activities under NAM.

 

  1. Ministry of AYUSH is implementing Central Sector Scheme for Promotion of Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) in AYUSH. The IEC scheme has components for promotion of Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani & Homoeopathy across the country for a) Organization of Arogya Fairs both at the National and State Level and an Annual event namely, Ayush scheme; b) Celebration of important Days of AYUSH Systems;  c) Organization of Ayurveda Parv and Yoga Fest/Utsav etc; d) Participation in Health Fairs/ Melas / Exhibitions organized by Government Departments, State Governments and other reputed Organizations; e) Preparation and distribution of authentic Publicity material on AYUSH Systems including Multi-media/print media campaigns, audio visual materials for popularization of AYUSH Systems; f) Providing financial assistance to reputed organizations, NGOs, educational/ research institutes for organizing Seminars, Conferences, Symposiums, Workshop, meeting, etc. on AYUSH Systems; g) Providing incentives to AYUSH Industry to participate in Arogya and other Fairs/ Melas/ Exhibitions/ Conferences/ Seminars etc organized by Central/ State Governments/ Government organizations/ reputed organizations like Chemexil, Pharmexcil, CII, FICCI, ASSOCHAM, ITPO etc at State/ National level; h) Virtual Webinars / Exhibitions on Ayush related topics and i) Media campaign through social media.
  2. The Research Councils of the Ministry of AYUSH namely Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH), Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS) and Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM) have the mandate to undertake research in their respective system of medicines including promotion of AYUSH through various activities such as Swasthya Rakshan Program, Schedule Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) Program, Tribal Health Care Research Program (THCRP).
  3. The National Institutes namely National Institute of Ayurveda , Jaipur;  All India Institute of Ayurveda, New Delhi; North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy, Shillong; Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda, Jamnagar; National Institute of Homeopathy , Kolkata; National Institute of Unani Medicine , Bengaluru; National Institute of Siddha, Chennai, which are autonomous bodies under the Ministry of AYUSH have the mandate for imparting education in UG/PG/Ph.D, promotion of AYUSH, providing Healthcare services, organizing lecture series on lifestyle disorders and its management for people at large and providing wide publicity about the scope of AYUSH treatment methods for various diseases.
  4. Ministry of AYUSH alongwith Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) is implementing NPCDCS (National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke) for health promotion, prevention and management of Non-communicable diseases or Lifestyle related disorders through its three research organizations, namely, Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM) and Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH) in districts namely Bhilwara (Rajasthan), Surendranagar (Gujarat), Gaya (Bihar), Darjeeling (West Bengal), Krishna (Andhra Pradesh), Sambalpur (Odisha), Nasik (Maharashtra) and Lakhimpur Kheri (UP).
  5. CCRAS is maintaining a website entitled AYUSH Research Portal in which all published research information related to all AYUSH systems are uploaded systematically for wider utility and visibility of research.

Ministry of AYUSH is presently implementing Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National AYUSH Mission (NAM).  Under ‘Medicinal Plants’ component of the NAM scheme, Ministry is supporting market driven cultivation of prioritized medicinal plants in identified cluster/zones within selected districts of States. As per the scheme guidelines, the support is provided for:

  1. Cultivation of prioritized medicinal plants on farmer’s land.
  2. Establishment of nurseries with backward linkages for raising and supply of quality planting material.
  3. Post-harvest management with forward linkages.
  4. Primary processing, marketing infrastructure etc.

                                                                                                                                                            Under this scheme, subsidy@30%, 50% and 75% of cost of cultivation is provided for cultivation of medicinal plants, depending upon the status of availability and market demand as per operational guidelines of the Scheme. During the last three years National Medicinal Plants Board under the Ministry of AYUSH has released a total amount of Rs. 6939.509 Lakh for cultivation of medicinal plants to the different states.

The Minister of State (The Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy), Sh. Kiren Rijiju (Additional Charge) stated this in a written reply in the Lok Sabha here today.
