Steps taken by the Department of Higher Education to Ensure Implementation of Special Campaign 2.0 and Promote Swachhata

Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India has been actively participating in the Special Campaign 2.0 responding to the clarion call of the Prime Minister to make government office spaces clean and citizen friendly.

In the preparatory phase, the Department alongwith all field offices under it had identified the pendency on various parameters and expedited in resolving the pending issues on a mission mode. Accordingly, targets were identified in the Department. Details of activities undertaken in the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education during the campaign are presented below:

All the field offices including 189 institutions under the administrative control the Department have conducted various activities under the aegis of Special Campaign 2.0 with special focus on Swachhata in their Campus. Various activities like promotion of 3R (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) principle, installation of 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) kiosks led by Women SHGs with emphasis on collecting segregated waste from offices to further put into reuse.

Secretary (Higher Education) took a meeting with heads of all Central Higher Educational Institutions/ organizations/ attached and subordinate offices under the Department of Higher Education on 30th September, 2022 through Video Conferencing in the presence of all Addl. / Joint Secretaries Heads of the Department. In the meeting, Secretary (Higher Education) pressed upon mission mode disposal of pendency of various issues in the institutes and offices under the Department. He also emphasized on proper record and space management in the office premises.

Internal Competition were held during Cleanliness Drive under Special Campaign 2.0 from 2nd October, 2022 to 31st October, 2022 in the Ministry of Education to acknowledge the outstanding contributions by individual Section/Desk in ensuring a clean working environment. The key indicators for the assessment for internal competition were as under:

  1. Space utilization in an efficient, orderly and aesthetic manner;
     
  2. Cleanliness of space inside Section/ Desks.
     
  3. Record management practices
     
  • IV. Any other innovative practices adopted by Sections/offices etc. to maintain
    the cleanliness in a scientific manner .etc,

The Department has been actively promoting Swachhata and Special campaign 2.0 using the hashtag created by DARPG and all the institutions under the Department of Higher Education are actively involved in promotion of Special Campaign 2.0 via their social media handles.

Some of the key activities undertaken by various institutes / organization under DoHE under the aegis of Special campaign 2.0 are:-

 

  1. NIT Delhi - On 11th October 2022, tree plantation drive was conducted when, 100 trees were planted together at a single moment in the new campus of NIT, Delhi under Special Campaign 2.0. An open gym was also created at NIT campus by cleaning the dumping ground.

 

  1. On 18th October, 2022, a Nukkad Natak was organised in BHU Campus to promote Swachhata and create awareness among the masses.

 

  1. A blood donation camp was organized from 12-18 October 2022 at BHU where 254 units of blood were donated by the staff/students of BHU.

 

  1. IIT Madras has freed a sum of 10,000 sq. mtr. area under the Special Campaign 2.0

 

  1. Similarly, all the 189 institutions under DoHE conducted various activities on the above lines under the aegis of Special Campaign 2.0.
