MAULANA AZAD EDUCATION FOUNDATION

Ministry of Minority Affairs implements two schemes under Maulana Azad Education Foundation (MAEF) namely “Grant-in-aid to NGOs” for infrastructure development of institutions run by NGOs and Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship (BHMNS) for meritorious girls belonging to minority communities for their higher secondary level education i.e., for  Class IX to XII.  BHMNS has been subsumed under the Prime Minister Educational Empowerment Scheme (PMEES) of Ministry of Minority Affairs.

The Government implements various schemes for the welfare and upliftment of every strata, including minorities, specially the economically weaker and lesser privileged sections of the society, through various schemes of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Ministry of Textiles, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Women and Child Development and Ministry of Rural Development.

Maulana Azad Education Foundation has sufficient funds from interest earned on its corpus to meet its requirement for promoting education for the minority students in the country.

This information was given by the Union Minister of Minority Affairs, Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani, in a written reply in Lok Sabha.
