AYUSH as Global Hub

India’s homoeopathic sector is rapidly evolving into a global hub for high-quality and science-backed natural medicines. Details are as follows:-

  • Research council under Ministry of Ayush namely Central Council of Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH) is actively engaged in evidence-based research through intra mural and collaborative modes, in accordance with research policy, to generate scientific evidence on the safety and efficacy of Homoeopathy interventions.
  • To promote global collaboration, 12 institute-level MoUs have been signed with leading medical centres, universities and scientific organisations in Germany, Canada, USA, UK, Argentina, Israel, Armenia, Mexico and Brazil. These MoUs focus on joint research, information exchange, academic cooperation and conducting seminars/workshops. Alongside this, 25 country-level MoUs on Traditional Medicine, including homoeopathy, have been signed to strengthen international partnerships.
  • Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine & Homoeopathy (PCIM&H), subordinate office under Ministry of Ayush plays a crucial role in development and publications of Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani & Homoeopathy (ASU&H) systems of medicines through respective ASU&H pharmacopoeias, to ascertain the identity, purity & strength of the drugs included therein. PCIM&H also act as Central Drug Testing cum Appellate Laboratory for these systems of medicines. Till date, PCIM&H published XI volumes of Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of India which covers 1185 (including revised) pharmacopeial monographs of Homoeopathic drugs.
  • Ministry of Ayush has also implemented the Central Sector Scheme for Promotion of International Cooperation for Ayush (IC Scheme). Under this scheme, support is provided to Ayush drug manufacturers and service providers to boost exports; to facilitate global promotion and market development of Ayush systems; to foster academic and research collaboration through Ayush Chairs abroad; and to conduct international training programmes, workshops and symposiums for enhancing awareness and acceptance of Ayush, including homoeopathy.

Ministry of Ayush is implementing a Central Sector Scheme Ayush Oushadhi Gunavatta evam Uttpadan Samvardhan Yojana (AOGUSY) since 2021-22 with total budget outlay of Rs. 122.00 crores for five years. The objectives of AOGUSY are as follows: -

  1. To enhance India's manufacturing capabilities and exports of traditional medicines and health promotion products under the initiative of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
  2. To facilitate adequate infrastructural & technological upgradation and institutional activities in public and private sector for standardization, quality manufacturing and analytical testing of Ayush drugs & materials.
  3. To strengthen regulatory frameworks at Central and State level for effective quality control, safety monitoring and surveillance of misleading advertisements of Ayush drugs.
  4. To encourage building up synergies, collaborations and convergent approaches for promoting standards and quality of Ayush drugs & materials.

 

Ministry of Ayush has launched an IT enabled online portal “e-AUSHADHI” in 2019 to grant license to and/or renew the license of the manufacturers to manufacture Ayurveda, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa, Unani and Homoeopathy medicines by their respective State/UT Licensing Authorities, as per the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and Drugs Rules, 1945.
