The hospitals already established by Tata Memorial Centre are proof-of-concept that such a network can be created and can serve as models for developing more hubs and spokes by the State governments. Tata Memorial Centre is currently in the phase of consolidating its network, especially the non-Mumbai units, to achieve the high level of excellence that TMC Mumbai is renowned for. This consolidation comprises painstaking creation and assimilation of expert human resources in the new units of TMC, creating healthcare delivery pathways that have been honed in Mumbai TMC over decades of its existence, establishing the information technology (IT) backbone on which all TMC units run, creating an enabling ecosystem (example residential accommodation for staff, trainees and patients), and, maintaining and enhancing the infrastructure required to deliver high-quality cancer care.
Initiatives such as TMC’s National Cancer Grid could be a vehicle for technical input, such as resource-stratified guidelines, pathology reporting standards, virtual tumor boards, traveling school of pathology and nursing, etc, for progressive development of hubs and spokes. Tata Memorial Centre could also take the lead in creating an oncology-focused electronic medical record platform for widespread adoption by cancer institutions in India. This will be a significant step in enabling not only seamless data collection but also uniform standards of care throughout the country. Further, as part of the National Cancer Grid we have 380 cancer centres, research organizations and patient groups. However, the NCG does not have a hub and spoke model. The coordinating centre which is in Tata Memorial Hospital runs various activities across the member centres to strengthen cancer care in the country through quality improvement, standardization, manpower training and research.
At present the TMC has established following hospital on Hub & Spoke model basis

At present there is no such plan to establish hospital on the pattern of Hub and Spoke model in Maharashtra including Wardha region. However, a list of Hospital/Healthcare which are already registered with NCG is attached as Annexure –
It may be noted that TMC is working as a Hub for all NCG activities under the prescribed guidelines.
The funds allocated, released and utilized for setting up and expansion of cancer hospitals and research centres under DAE in the country particularly in Maharashtra during the last three years is attached as Annexure-B.
TMC has not received any proposal in this regard.
This information was given by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, and Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
