Rs. 24.06 Crores released as Grant in Aid to 202 projects, under Atal Vayo Abhyudaya Yojana (AVYAY)
The Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJE) has taken adequate initiatives for the welfare of senior citizens. The welfare activities for the senior citizens are carried through Atal Vayo Abhyudaya Yojana (AVYAY) aimed at fostering an inclusive society for senior citizens reflecting the Central Government's strong commitment towards "Ageing with Dignity" and "Ageing at Place".
Secretary, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Sudhansh Pant said that under the Integrated Programme for Senior Citizens (IPSr.C.) an amount to the tune of Rs. 24.06 Crores was released as Grant in Aid to 202 projects, for the quarter ending 30.06.2026 for the financial year 2026-27.
Shri Pant said that under the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY), 53,776 beneficiaries were covered with 2,69,747 Assistive Living Devices through camp mode and walk in centres of Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) at Pradhan Mantri Divyasha Vayoshri Kendra (PMD-VK).
He added that 30 more Gap Districts are now being covered under Atal Vayo Abhyudaya Yojana (AVYAY) by increasing the coverage of Senior Citizen Homes in 435 districts across the country.
Pertinently, "JEEVAN" (Joint Elderly Empowerment & Virtual Assistance Network) mobile app and "SHATAYU" (Senior Holistic Care Assistance and Training For Your Utility) dashboard was launched by Hon'ble Union Minister, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr. Virendra Kumar to enhance the access of welfare services for the senior citizens and strengthen the care giving eco-system.
The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment organised a National Workshop on creating a well-functioning Care Economy in coordination with the Line/ Central Ministries/ Departments of Government of India, academia, stakeholders and the State/ UTs.
The International Day of Yoga on 21st June, 2026 with the theme of "Yoga for Healthy Ageing" was organized at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi with the participation of around 1300 senior citizens at one place. The Regional Resource Training Centres (RRTCs), Senior Citizen Homes and organizations with whom the MoUs have been signed participated on this Yoga Day on a large scale. The Brahma Kumaris organized Yoga function at Red Fort with 20,000 participants.
Taking one step ahead, a MoU was signed with All World Gayatri Pariwar at Shanti Kunj, Haridwar to promote awareness, wellness, community outreach and inter-generational bonding activities with the Department.
