Under the Research & Innovation (R&I) in Ayush and Ayurveda Biology Integrated Health Research (ABIHR) components of the Ayurgyan Scheme, 42 (10 new & 32 ongoing) and 07 (05 new & 02 ongoing) research projects were supported respectively for a duration of three years and funds were released on instalment basis during FY 2025-26.

In addition, Research Councils under Ministry of Ayush namely Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Science (CCRAS), Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH), Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS) and Central Council for Research in Yoga & Naturopathy (CCRYN) also undertake research activities such as Clinical Research, Drug Proving, Drug Verification, Drug validation, Drug Standardization, Public Health Research, Fundamental Research and Epidemic research  through their Research Institutes/Treatment Centre/Peripheral Units. A total 693 no. of research studies (i.e. CCRAS-340, CCRH-142, CCRUM-140, CCRS-71) were undertaken by the above Research Councils during FY 2025-26.

Under the Research & Innovation (R&I) component, a total of 10 research papers were published in peer-reviewed journals during FY 2025–26. In addition, the Research Councils published 653 research papers in peer-reviewed journals during the same period, comprising 232 by CCRAS, 84 by CCRH, 248 by CCRUM, 67 by CCRS, and 22 by CCRYN. Further, a total of 03 patents was granted to the Research Councils during FY 2025–26, including 02 to CCRAS and 01 to CCRH.

To integrate validated Ayush research with mainstream healthcare delivery following steps have been taken by the Ministry of Ayush as well as Research Councils under this Ministry:

1. To strengthen the integration of the Ayush systems with the modern system of medicine, financial assistance was provided to 09 organizations of national repute under the Centre of Excellence (CoE) component of Ayurswasthya Yojana with the aim to promote research and development in Ayush in collaboration with the modern system of medicine to strengthen the scientific validation of Ayush systems and promoting its wider acceptance.
2. Under the Extramural Research Programme, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the CCRAS have taken an initiative to set up the Ayush-ICMR Advanced Centre for Integrative Health Research (AI - ACIHR) at AIIMS, New Delhi, Jodhpur, Nagpur and Rishikesh to conduct research on identified areas focusing on integrative healthcare.
3. Integration of Ayush systems in National Programme of prevention and control for Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease & Stroke (NPCDCS) has been undertaken by CCRAS.
4. CCRS has initiated the three research collaborative projects with Indian Council of Medical Research-National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis (ICMR-NIRT) projects aimed at the prevention, management, and rehabilitation of Tuberculosis (TB).
5. In addition to above, Mainstreaming of Ayush is a core strategy under the National Health Mission (NHM) to provide accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare. To promote traditional systems of medicine, the Government has integrated Ayush services into the public healthcare system through the co-location of Ayush facilities at Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs), and District Hospitals (DHs).
