TDB-DST Supports M/s Foodtechnics Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru, for Commercialization of Indigenous Compact Automatic Roti Making Machine
Advancing indigenous kitchen automation and smart food processing technologies, the Technology Development Board (TDB), under the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, has extended financial assistance to M/s Foodtechnics Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru, for the project titled “ROTIDO – Compact Automatic Roti Making Machine with Inbuilt Kneader, Pressing and Roasting.” The project aims to commercialize a fully indigenous, compact automated roti-making system designed for households, small businesses, restaurants, and institutional kitchens, supporting India's vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat through homegrown manufacturing and innovation.
The project focuses on the development and commercialization of ROTIDO C-150, a compact, intelligent roti-making machine that integrates kneading, dough handling, pressing, roasting, and automatic ejection into a single automated system. Designed to produce up to 150 rotis per hour, the machine delivers consistent quality while significantly reducing manual effort, improving hygiene, and enhancing operational efficiency.
The technology has been developed entirely through the company's in-house research and development efforts. Building on the successful commercialization of its larger industrial models, ROTIDO R-1000 and RS-1000, Foodtechnics is now introducing a compact solution specifically tailored for domestic users and small commercial establishments. The project has also received support under the NIDHI PRAYAS Scheme for prototype development, demonstrating a successful innovation journey from early-stage technology development to commercialization.
A key innovation of the ROTIDO C-150 lies in its seamless integration of a 2 kg inbuilt kneader, automated dough ball feeding system, precision pressing mechanism, and three-layer controlled roasting technology within a compact footprint. Intelligent process synchronization, programmable controls, and an integrated dough weighing system ensure uniform thickness, consistent roasting, and repeatable product quality with minimal human intervention. The modular and energy-efficient design enables hygienic operation while making automated roti preparation accessible and affordable for a wider segment of users.
The project is expected to strengthen India's domestic manufacturing ecosystem for food processing equipment by offering an indigenous alternative to imported automated kitchen solutions. Beyond improving convenience and productivity, the technology has the potential to support restaurants, cloud kitchens, hostels, hospitals, canteens, and small food enterprises by reducing labour dependency, improving food consistency, and enhancing operational efficiency.
