Accessibility Statement

The Press Information Bureau is committed to making pib.gov.in usable by everyone, including people who use screen readers, magnification, speech input or keyboard-only navigation.

Standard we aim for

This website aims to conform to the Guidelines for Indian Government Websites (GIGW 3.0) and to WCAG 2.1 Level AA. These are the standards referenced by the Digital Brand Identity Manual (DBIM 3.0, Section 8) and they support the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.

What this site provides

• A skip to content link, the first thing reached by the keyboard on every page.
• Text size controls that enlarge or reduce text, including text delivered from the content system.
• A high contrast theme and alternative colour themes, which persist between visits.
• Keyboard access throughout, with a visible focus outline on every interactive element.
• Access keys for the main destinations: 1 Home, 2 Skip to content, 3 Search, 4 Sitemap, 5 Screen reader access, 0 this page.
• Landmark structure (banner, navigation, main, contentinfo) and ARIA labelling for assistive technology.
• A pause control on the moving carousel, with changes announced to screen readers.
• A screen reader access page listing supported assistive software.
• Content in English, Hindi, Urdu and regional languages, with the page language declared so screen readers pronounce it correctly.

Known limitations

We would rather tell you what does not work yet than claim everything does. As of September 2026 we are aware of the following, and each is being worked on:

• Videos do not yet have captions. Videos hosted on this site and on our YouTube channel largely lack subtitle tracks. The players support captions; the caption files are being produced.
• Some images lack text alternatives. Most images carry a description, but some older content published through the content system does not. We are working through the backlog.
• Some documents are not fully accessible. Older PDFs may not be tagged for screen readers. If you need an accessible version of any document, please ask us and we will provide one.
• Embedded social media content from X, Facebook and YouTube is supplied by those platforms and we do not control its accessibility.
• The page layout is not yet fully responsive on every page, and some pages are served in a separate mobile version.
• Right-to-left layout for Urdu currently applies to the text of articles rather than to the whole page.

How this statement was prepared

This statement is based on a review of the website against DBIM 3.0 and GIGW 3.0 carried out in September 2026, combined with testing of the site's own code. It has not yet been validated by an external accessibility audit or by a formal user test with people with disabilities; both are planned.
