Posted On: 22 FEB 2025 5:55PM by PIB Guwahati

The National Faceless Assessment Centre (NaFAC) and the National Faceless Appeal Centre (NFAC) of the Income Tax Department, New Delhi, under the leadership of Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Ms. Jahanzeb Akhtar, successfully conducted an outreach program for both internal and external stakeholders in Guwahati yesterday.

The event saw the presence of several distinguished officials, including Shri Nav Ratan Soni, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, North Eastern Region, Ms. N Longvah, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax Shillong and other senior officers of the department.

The sessions emphasized the technological advancements in the "faceless" tax administration system, which has revolutionized the way tax assessments and appeals are conducted. These advancements include anonymized case allocation, taxpayer interactions exclusively in the online mode, and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), positioning India's tax system as a pioneering global model.

During the external stakeholders' session, representatives from Chartered Accountants (CAs), Tax Advocates and trade bodies actively participated, providing feedback and suggestions. This candid exchange of views facilitated a deeper understanding of the concerns surrounding the ease of doing business under the faceless system.

The session with internal stakeholders focused on identifying challenges faced by officers and emphasized the importance of augmenting their capacity. Ms. Akhtar encouraged officials to take pride in the integrity of the faceless scheme and reminded them of the strict consequences that would follow any breach of confidentiality.
