As part of its Golden Jubilee celebrations, the CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (CSIR-NIIST), Thiruvananthapuram, organized a national conclave on “Emerging Trends in Bio-manufacturing and Healthcare – 2025.” The event brought together scientists, industry experts, researchers, and students to explore advancements in bio-manufacturing, sustainable healthcare, and the bio-economy.
The conclave was inaugurated by Dr. Vinay K. Nandicoori, Director, CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CSIR-CCMB), Hyderabad. In his address, he stressed the need for science-based solutions to address healthcare challenges in both urban and rural India and called for defining genetic health standards tailored to the Indian population to enable personalized therapies.

Presiding over the event, Dr. C. Anandharamakrishnan, Director, CSIR-NIIST, highlighted the importance of scaling bio-based innovations from lab to industry. He underscored the role of bio-manufacturing hubs under the national BioE3 policy — focusing on Economy, Environment, and Employment — and reiterated CSIR-NIIST’s commitment to contributing to the vision of Viksit Bharat through impactful, need-based research.
Dr. Eugene Raj Arulmuthu, Vice-President, Manufacturing Gene Therapy, Reliance Life Sciences, Mumbai, delivered the Guest of Honour address, emphasizing the need to make gene therapies both accessible and affordable. He highlighted the capability of Indian biotech industries to scale innovations for broader societal benefit.
A key moment of the conclave was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between CSIR-NIIST and Amala Institute of Medical Sciences, Thrissur. The collaboration aims to advance research in cancer diagnostics and biomarker development, fostering translational research that connects lab findings to clinical applications.
The day-long event featured keynote talks, technical sessions, poster presentations, and flash oral sessions by students and young researchers, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and showcasing emerging talent in biotechnology and healthcare.
