BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS (BIS) AHMEDABAD RAIDS ON UNIT SELLING PLYWOOD AND FLUSH DOOR HAVING SPURIOUS ISI MARK

An Enforcement raid was carried out by team of officers of Bureau of Indian Standards, Ahmadabad on the premises of M/s Mahashakti Plywood and Hardware, Near Grampanchayat, Kanodar, Dist: Banaskantha, Gujarat - 385520 on 22.05.2026 based on the intelligence gathered that the unit is indulged in the spurious ISI Marked Plywood and Flush Doors selling. During the raid, firm was found selling Plywood and Flush Doors having spurious ISI mark and 03 units of Plywood and 02 units of Flush Doors having spurious ISI Mark were seized from the premises of M/s Mahashakti Plywood and Hardware.

The product is under Compulsory Product Certification Scheme of BIS as notified by the Quality Control Order, issued by the Govt. of India which implies that no person shall manufacture, import, distribute, sell, hire, lease, store or exhibit for sale any such goods, article, process, system or service without having valid license from BIS. An action is being initiated against the offender for sale of product covered under Compulsory Product Certification Scheme of BIS, without having valid BIS licence, violating Section 17 of BIS Act 2016. The offence is punishable by imprisonment upto two years or a fine not less than of Rs. 2,00,000/- or both and not less than Rs. 5,00,000/- for subsequent contraventions, which may extend upto ten times the value of the goods.

The Government of India through its various Quality Control Orders has brought more than 700 products under Mandatory BIS Certification, which is applicable to both domestic and foreign manufacturers. Unscrupulous manufacturers manufacture such products without a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, in order to sell products without quality checks and deceive the public. Bureau of Indian Standards has been carrying out a series of raids, as and when information about misuse or violation of QCO is received/collected to protect common consumers from such deception and possible safety hazards which results from usage of such materials.
