The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu graced the 36th convocation ceremony of Rani Durgavati University at Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh today (June 21, 2026).

Speaking on the occasion, the President said that education is the most effective means for the development of any individual or community. Therefore, striving for the educational advancement of tribal community is of great importance. We must collectively ensure that tribal youth have opportunity to contribute in modern development while simultaneously preserving their tribal identity and distinctiveness in its authentic form. Also, traditional skills and knowledge of the tribal community should be disseminated through various mediums. A comprehensive study of tribal knowledge and craft traditions would be beneficial for all citizens of the country. Educational institutions like Rani Durgavati University should make special efforts in this regard.

The President said that apart from imparting education to students, higher education institutions serve as key centers for innovation and research. Fostering creative thinking, scientific temper, and entrepreneurial spirit among students is a crucial responsibility of these institutions. They are also expected to instill a sense of pride in Indian culture, traditions and languages among the students. A balanced development of the country will be achieved through harmonious blend of modernity and tradition.

The President said that emphasis should be given to studies and research that are beneficial to the nation and society. Society benefits when subjects such as environmental conservation, women's empowerment, the development of marginalized sections, cleanliness and social harmony are incorporated into the curriculum. Study and research in such subjects also aid in formulating plans for the country's development.

The President said that the world is changing rapidly today. Our language and lifestyle are also changing at a fast pace. But we must not forget that certain eternal values always empower us. She advised students to make the values and ideals of Indian culture the foundation of their lives. She said that values such as truth, non-violence, compassion, service and honesty have always been part of the core consciousness in every era. By embracing these values, they can face even the difficult situations with determination, become ideal citizens, and make significant contributions to nation-building.
The President told students that they are not merely representatives of their families or universities; they are the architects of the nation's aspirations and its future. It is through their knowledge, energy, and resolve that the dream of Viksit Bharat will be realized. She urged them to use their education and talent not only for personal success, but for the greater good of society. She advised them to understand the challenges faced by the underprivileged and rural communities around them, develop solutions tailored to their needs, empower them and contribute in bringing them into the mainstream of development.
The President said that the country is scaling new heights in sectors such as digital technology, startups, green energy, space research and modern infrastructure. She advised young people to seize these opportunities and make their mark on the global stage. She further advised them to fulfill their responsibility towards the environment. She said that a commitment to the conservation of water, forests, and land, the use of clean energy, the protection of biodiversity, and sustainable development should be an integral part of their life's journey.
