Inspector General T Sashi Kumar, TM, Commander Coast Guard Region (North-West), inaugurated extension of ICG Jetty at Porbandar on 02 July 2026, reinforcing operational infrastructure of Indian Coast Guard along the strategically important North-West coast. The extension has increased jetty length from 175 metres to 275 metres, significantly enhancing berthing capacity, logistics support and operational readiness. The upgraded facility will enable simultaneous berthing of additional Coast Guard ships, ensuring faster turnaround and sustained deployment for maritime surveillance, coastal security and maritime contingencies.

Porbandar, located along the strategically significant Western Seaboard, serves as a key maritime security and operational base for Indian Coast Guard, enabling maritime safety, security and environmental protection. The enhanced jetty infrastructure will facilitate sustained deployment of ships in the EEZ, operations in proximity to the IMBL and rapid response to emergencies. Successful completion of this critical infrastructure project reflects exemplary collaboration between Gujarat Maritime Board, IIT Madras and Military Engineer Services, whose collective expertise transformed a vital operational requirement into a modern maritime asset.
The accentuated jetty will strengthen Indian Coast Guard's capability to safeguard India's maritime frontiers, protect offshore assets, ensure safety of fishermen/ mariners and respond swiftly to emerging maritime challenges along Gujarat coast. This accretion in operational infrastructure reaffirms the Indian Coast Guard's steadfast commitment to safeguarding the nation's maritime domain and maintaining a safe, secure and vigilant coastal environment in the North-West Maritime sector.

Furthermore, Commander Coast Guard Region (North-West) reviewed the ongoing progress of the refit of Coast Guard vessels at M/s SDHIL, Pipavav. A walk-around onboard ICGS Samudra Pavak and ICGS Aryaman was undertaken, followed by an in-house meeting with ICG Officers and refit stakeholders. Issues pertaining to the timely completion of the refits were discussed and initiatives for early action to mitigate these issues were shared.
