FAME INDIA SCHEME TO REALISE VISION OF ECOFRIENDLY PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
25 e-BUS CHARGING STATIONS SANCTIONED FOR TRICHY UNDER THE SCHEME

Union government is implementing Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid Electric vehicles (FAME) Scheme in tune with the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for eco-friendly public transportation. Government has sanctioned 25 charging stations for electric buses in Tiruchirapalli under FAME India Scheme. Government has sanctioned now 670 Electric buses in the states of Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat and Chandigarh and 241 Charging Stations in Tamil Nadu Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Gujarat and Port Blair under Phase-II of FAME India Scheme. Under the scheme 100 e-bus each have been sanctioned now for Goa, Maharashtra, Navi Mumbai, Rajkot, 150 e-bus for Surat, 80 for Chandigarh and 40 for BEST Mumbai. Last year, Department of Heavy Industry had approved sanction of 5595 electric buses to 64 cities. This included 100 e-bus each for Trichy, Madurai, Coimbatore, 50 each for Erode, Tirupur, Salem, Vellore and 25 for Thanjavur.
The Department of Heavy Industries is implementing FAME India Scheme for promotion of electric vehicles in India since 1st April, 2015. The Phase-I of the Scheme was extended till 31st March, 2019. The Phase-II of FAME India Scheme is being implemented for a period of 3 years from 1st April, 2019 with a total budgetary support of Rs. 10,000 crore. This phase aims to generate demand by way of supporting 7000 Electric Buses , 5 lakh electric three wheelers , 55000 electric four wheeler passenger cars and 10 lakh electric two wheelers. In the First Phase of the Scheme, about 2.8 lakh hybrid and electric vehicles were supported by way of demand incentive amounting to about Rs 359 crore. The Department of Heavy Industries sanctioned 425 electric and hybrid buses to various cities in the country with total cost of about Rs. 300 crores. National Automotive Board says that almost 30,000 electric vehicles were sold all over India. With the utilisation of such environment friendly vehicles, 87.8 lakh litres of fuel have been saved, almost 74,000 Kgms of carbon dioxide emission reduced. Tamil Nadu stands first among states with 4049 electric vehicles bought including about 4000 electric two-wheelers.
Smt Sujatha from Srirangam said that electric buses will definitely reduce air pollution in Tiruchirapalli city. She said that during winter times, Cauvery bridge linking Srirangam with Tiruchirapalli will be covered with fog making difficult for motorists. She pointed out that more and more electric public transport buses will help reduction of carbon dioxide emission and smog.
Environment friendly electric vehicles will definitely reduce carbon emissions which will safeguard our health. Fame India scheme will help reduce air pollution with more and more electric buses and electric vehicles especially two-wheelers replacing petrol and diesel vehicles.
