Posted On: 23 DEC 2020 3:19PM by PIB Chennai

Prime Minister Shri NarendraModi will be releasing Rs 2000 each to 9 crore farmers under PM KisanSammanNidhi Scheme on December 25, Friday. Total of Rs 18,000 crore amounting Rs 2000 each will be deposited directly in the accounts of nine crore farmers under the scheme. PM will also interact with farmers on that day, the  birthday of former Prime Minister Shri A B Vajpayee through video conferencing.  The first two instalments under the scheme were given in April and August this year. This is the third and final instalment under PM KisanSammaanNidhi.

The Pradhan MantriKisanSammanNidhi (PM-KISAN) Scheme was launched by PM Shri NarendraModi in 2019. The Scheme aims to provide income support to all landholder farmer families across the country with cultivable land, subject to certain exclusions. Under the Scheme, an amount of Rs 6000 per year is released in three  instalments of Rs 2000 each directly into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.

ln the beginning, when the PM-KISAN Scheme was launched (February, 2019), its benefits were admissible only to Small & marginal Farmers' families, with combined landholding upto 2 hectare. The Scheme was later on revised in June 2019 and extended to all farmer families irrespective of the size of their landholdings. The Central Government had notified a decision to extend the benefit of Rs 6,000 per year under the Pradhan MantriKisanSammanNidhi scheme to all farmers in the country, irrespective of the size of their landholding.

Earlier on August 9, this year , the Prime Minister announced to transfer Rs 17 thousand crore Rupees under PM KisanSammanNidhi to the accounts of 8.5 crore farmer families. First instalment of Rs 2000 was given to farmers in April itself. Under this scheme,  farmers will get Rs 2000 each in three instalments totalling Rs 6000 per annum in their accounts. This scheme has arrived as a blessing to small and marginal farmers who always suffer to manage their expenses as agriculture is dependent on vagaries of nature. Union and state governments are implementing various schemes to mitigate the sufferings of farmers especially during lockdown too.

Farmers in Tiruchirapalli have expressed their happiness in getting the cash assistance under the scheme. The clarion call by Prime Minister to be self reliant especially during covid 19 lockdown has been accepted fully by farmers. It is the farmers who have helped the government fight the covid 19 by making us self reliant in food security in difficult times.
