CSIR-CMERI, Durgapur intends to boost manufacturing of Oxygen Enrichment unit (OEU) so that the mass production of the unit may be started at the earliest and its benefits may be extended to the maximum people in the society. Prof (Dr) Harish Hirani, Director, CSIR-CMERI Durgapur stated this on Friday while transferring the technology of Oxygen Enrichment Unit (OEU) to the Central Tool Room and Training Centre (CTTC), Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Speaking about some bottlenecks in the availability of the raw materials for the product locally, Prof. Hirani urged to all to work together in a cohesive manner so that necessary Oxygen units may be provided to the needy persons in the society.

Prof (Dr.) Hirani also added that CSIR-CMERI developed OEU can be used for small hospitals, mohalla clinics, remote villages, high altitude regions for military personnel and every household. It can also be used as Air Purifier. According to him, CSIR-CMERI innovated oxygen enrichment unit is better on several parameters and is more economic in comparison to similar other product available in the Indian market. The licensees are working further for development of a sustainable product. Oxygen Concentrator has the potential to replace the medical Oxygen Cylinders in future considering its edge over the latter on transportation and logistics cost, refilling requirements and potential accidents due to fire, he reiterated.

Shri L Raja Shekhar, General Manger, CTTC, Bhubaneswar said that the Centre which is a under the MSME, Government of India has excellent infrastructural capabilities and it initially would manufacture 20-30 OEUs. With the technical assistance and guidance from CSIR-CMERI, CTTC would definitely be successful in scaling up of the manufacturing of the technology further for its reach to the masses at the earliest.

Taking its technical awareness campaign for the MSMEs and entrepreneurs further, CSIR-CMERI organized a virtual seminar on the day in association with MSME-DI Ranchi and Indo Danish Tool Room (IDTR), Jamshedpur where around 115 participants from MSMEs, entrepreneurs, medical professionals and technical experts participated. The officials of MSME-DI Ranchi and Indo Danish Tool Room, Jamshedpur appreciated the initiative of CSIR-CMERI for imparting the technical awareness amongst the stake holders through such programme and discussed about the Oxygen Concentrators and OEU as the alternative to the Liquid Oxygen Cylinders.

Shri Anand Dayal, Managing Director, IDTR, Jamshedpur requested CSIR-CMERI for mutual collaboration for the societal benefit and informed that the Institute for Design of Electrical Measuring Instruments (IDEMI), Mumbai under the MSME may also provide the required necessary certification of the oxygen enrichment technology.

Dr. S. K. Sahoo, Joint Director & HoD, MSME-DI, Ranchi appreciated the efforts of Prof. (Dr.) Hirani, for such technical & valuable webinar and requested MSMEs, State Government, and entrepreneurs to avail the CSIR-CMERI technology and services for reaching to maximum people.
