A team of students from hilly district of Kalimpong of West Bengal has developed an automatic hand sanitizer dispenser with bamboo and waste materials. This device has been designed and developed mainly by Azel Karthak currently perusing his B.Tech (Electronics and communication) from Siliguri Institute of Technology, West Bengal with the help of team SAMARTHAN an NGO.

While talking to Press information Bureau about his innovation Azel said, “The device has been made with waste materials and eco-friendly products. Since bamboo has a high efficiency and reflects our culture too, so we used bamboo as our raw material for our structural design. The other waste material used is the defective Diwali lights which is also an e-waste, generally which we throw it after it gets defected but none of us are aware that in most of the cases the wires are in a working condition. The container used for the sanitizer is plastic bottles which we see around and hence it is one of the largest contributors to plastic waste.”

As per team Smarthan while fighting Covid-19, one of the bare necessities to the public is hand sanitizer. However, keeping a bottle of hand sanitizer at public places for community use cannot ensure hygiene more over the plastic bottled hand sanitizers leads to environmental pollution. Additionally, many Automatic Hand Sanitizer Dispensers are available on the market but often come with a hefty price. Therefore, they came up with Homemade Automatic Hand Sanitizer Dispenser which costs much less than the conventional one. They have already placed this eco-friendly automated hand sanitizer in different public places, including the municipality, police station and hospitals.
