The Union Minister for Home & Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah chaired the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Home Affairs on the topic "Cyber Crime: Threats, Challenges and Response" in New Delhi today


In the last 7 years, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Government of India has taken many important steps to tackle cybercrime

In the last seven years, the work of setting up the infrastructure to deal with cyber crimes in the country has been completed fully  up to the police post level

Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) has been implemented in all 16,347 police stations in the country

In 99 percent of police stations, 100 percent FIRs are being registered directly in CCTNS, including newly established police stations

The work of making analytical tools against cyber crimes has also been completed up to 40 percent.

Efforts are being made to train the police and lawyers for the prevention of cyber crime.

As public representatives, it is the responsibility of all of us to try to spread awareness about cyber crimes.

The Central Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is committed to deal with every aspect of this new menace

The Union Minister for Home and Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, chaired the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Home Affairs on the topic "Cyber ​​Crime: Threats, Challenges and Response" in New Delhi today. The Union Home Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Ministry of Home Affairs has taken several important steps to tackle cybercrime. In the last seven years, the work of setting up the infrastructure to deal with cyber crimes in the country has been completed fully up to the police post level. He said that Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) has now been implemented in all 16,347 police stations of the country. In 99 per cent of the police stations, 100 per cent FIRs are being registered directly in the CCTNS. This also includes the newly established police stations.

Shri Amit Shah said that the work of making analytical tools against cyber crimes has also been completed up to 40 percent. The Home Minister also said that efforts are being made to train police and  lawyers to prevent cyber crimes. The Union Home Minister said that e-initiatives by the Ministry of Home Affairs to deal with cyber crimes, such as the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) facilitates victims/complainants to report cybercrime online. So far more than 6 lakh complaints have been received and 12,776 FIRs have been registered. The National Cybercrime Threat Analysis Unit (NCTAU) has issued 142 cybercrime prevention advisories and has blocked 266 mobile apps. 3,800 forensic services were provided by the National Cybercrime Forensic Laboratory (NCFL). He said that seven Joint Cybercrime Coordination Groups (JCCTs) have been constituted which include all the States and Union Territories. National Cybercrime Training Center (NCTC) registered 8,075 police personnel for online training and issued 1,877 certificates. 5 R&D proposals of National Cyber ​​Research and Innovation Center (NCR&IC) were selected. NCEMU has issued 960 cyber security tips and is constantly issuing cyber security tips on social media.

Shri Amit Shah said that the Government of India is committed to deal with every aspect of this new menace and as public representatives it is the responsibility of all of us to try to spread awareness about cyber crimes During the meeting, various initiatives of Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

During the meeting, various initiatives of Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) towards prevention of cyber crimes and awareness i.e. National Cybercrime Reporting Portal, a centralized system to report cyber crimes online 24X7 from anywhere; Cyber Capacity Building by setting up of Cyber Forensic-cum-Training Labs in States/UTs; Training of Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs); ‘CyTrain’ portal for Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) for training of LEAs; Cyber Crime Coordination Mechanism by constituting Joint Cyber Coordination Teams (JCCTs) in consultation with States/UTs based upon cyber crime hotspots / areas ; Cyber Crime Volunteer Framework and Coordination Mechanism at National / International level were discussed and analyzed.

The initiatives focusing on Cyber Awareness & Cyber Hygiene Promotion among general public through ‘@CyberDost’ social media handle of MHA; regular SMSs to citizens as cyber safety tips in collaboration with Department of Telecommunication; “Cyber Jaagrookta (Awareness) Diwas” etc in schools, colleges, Panchayati Raj Institutions etc so as to strengthen the mechanism to deal with cyber crimes in a comprehensive and coordinated manner were discussed.

During the discussions, Hon’ble Members gave constructive suggestions for further strengthening and improvement of response mechanism to effectively deal with the menace of cyber crimes, challenges and response, including the importance of cyber hygiene for prevention of cyber crimes. Ministers of State for Home Shri Nityanand Rai, Shri Ajay Kumar Mishra and Shri Nishith Pramanik and several senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs including the Union Home Secretary were also present in the meeting.
