ICAR – CCARI, Goa organized a special lecture on organ and tissue donation under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahostav

ICAR – Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (CCARI), Goa and ICAR – Krishi Vigyan Kendra, North Goa organized a special lecture on “Organ and tissue donation-awareness/education/ information bridging the gap” in collaboration with State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO), Goa . under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

In the inaugural address Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR- CCARI, Goa welcomed the speaker and shared his experiences and close association with blind students. Being himself a pledged organ donor, he said that, decision to donate organs is a life-saving one, helping people in dire need of transplants. He further requested the staff of the Institute to donate organs for the noble cause.

Dr. Preeti Varghese, Joint Director, SOTTO, Goa in life awakening lecture talked about the importance of organ transplant especially vital organs like kidney, heart, lungs and liver, she stressed, every year nearly 5 lakh Indians die due to unavailability of organs, so organ donation is an honorable deed and requested everyone to pledge their organs and tissues to save lives. She said that, one persons ‘WILL’ to donate organs can be a ray of light transforming eight lives and lives of eight families. Smt. Shraddha Kelkar, Consultant IEC, SOTTO Goa explained the process of registration to pledge the organ. Around 40 Institute staff attended in this program. Shri Rahul Kulkarni, Assistant Chief Technical Officer, ICAR-KVK, North Goa coordinated this programme.
