Cycle Rallies organized at various places in Maharashtra to commemorate World Bicycle Day


Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur launches nationwide programme at Delhi ; pedals with cycling enthusiasts

Mumbai, 3 June 2022

 

Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports Shri Anurag Thakur flagged off nationwide programmes on the occasion of World Bicycle Day from Major Dhyan Chand Stadium, New Delhi.   More than 1500 people participated in the 7.5 kms rally in Delhi.

To commemorate the World Bicycle Day, the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sanghatan had organized cycle rallies at more than 100 locations in 35 States and Union Territories which included 75 iconic places of historical and cultural importance. 

In Mumbai, a cycle rally was organized at Mumbai University’s Kalina campus.  In Pune the rally started from the historic Aga Khan Palace and culminated at the Deccan College.  Another cycle rally was flagged off from the Nagpur Railway Station.

The objective of the cycle rallies was to encourage and motivate people to take up and adopt Cycling in their daily lives for physical fitness activities and get freedom from obesity, laziness, stress, anxiety, diseases etc. By adopting cycling, common citizens will also facilitate in reducing carbon footprints.  Youth Volunteers are being motivated to participate and also organize similar Cycle Rallies in their respective villages and localities coinciding with Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

The key objective  of Observance of World Bicycle Day is to create awareness about fitness among people in general and youth in particular.  Citizen’s are motivated to make a resolve to include physical activity of at least 30 minutes daily in their lives “FITNESS KI DOSE AADHA GHANTA ROZ”.
