8th edition of International Day of Yoga to be celebrated tomorrow


Union Ministers to join Yoga Day celebrations at three iconic locations in Maharashtra and two locations in Goa

Outreach programmes at various districts of Maharashtra and Goa by the Central Bureau of Communication

4-day special exhibition and sale by the Publications Division in Navi Mumbai

The 8th edition of the International Day of Yoga (IDY) will be celebrated tomorrow (June 21, 2022) guided by the theme “Yoga for Humanity”. The Ministry of AYUSH has chosen this theme for all the yoga demonstration camps and sessions being organized in India and across the globe.

As the nation is also celebrating “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, Yoga performance and demonstrations will be held at 75 iconic places of India, which will be attended by Union Ministers, leaders and celebrities.  These 75 sites will link up with the main International Day of Yoga event at Mysuru, where PM Narendra Modi himself will be participating.

In Maharashtra, Union Ministers will take part in yoga demonstration sessions at three different places, namely Nagpur, Nashik and Pune. Nagpur’s yoga day camp at Zero Milestone will see the participation of Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari .

Union MSME Minister Shri Narayan Rane will participate in a yoga camp being organized by the AYUSH Ministry’s National Institute of Nutrition near Phugewadi Metro Station in Pune.

MoS Home Affairs Nityanad Rai will lead Yoga session at Trimbakeshwar Temple near Nashik, being organized by CRPF in coordination with District Administration and the Trimbakeshwar Temple Trust.

Nation gears up to celebrate International Day of Yoga tomorrow, with Yoga rehearsals being held across the country.

Other significant iconic sites include several UNESCO World Heritage sites like Red Fort in Delhi, Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, Sun Temple at Konark, Hampi in Karnataka among others. Gwalior Fort,  Darjeeling Himalayan Railways’ Batasia Loop, Sarnath and Varanasi Ghats, Jantar Mantar and Lotus temple in Delhi, Cellular Jail in Port Blair, Kangra Fort in HP, Ram Temple premises in Ayodhya, Jaisalmer Sand Dunes, Pangyong Lake, Statue of Unity at Kevadia are some other iconic locations which will witness yoga demonstration sessions early in the morning tomorrow.

In the neighbouring state of Goa, Union Minister of State for Tourism and Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shri Shripad Naik will participate in a yoga session at Se Cathedral in Old Goa while MoS Prahlad Singh Patel Patel will join a yoga demonstration session at Fort Aguada.

In a build-up to this year’s IDY, various organizations, including Central Ministries started organizing yoga demonstration sessions since April itself. The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Regional Office, Pune (Maharashta and Goa) has organized yoga outreach programmes this month at many different places, including  Ahmednagar, Amravati, Aurangabad, Yavatmal, Nagpur, Nanded, Solapur, Wardha, Nashik, Kolhapur, Jalgaon, Parbhani, Alibag, Pune and Panaji. This on-going programme includes, expert lectures on common yoga protocol, awareness rallies and competitions, demonstration of various yoga asanas, cultural programmes and photo exhibitions on yoga among many other outreach activities. In connection with this, Panaji field office is holding a two-day yoga session for specially-abled children starting today.

The Publication Division of Ministry of I&B will organize a 4 -day special book exhibition centred on ‘Yoga’ theme at its store located  in Kendriya Sadan, Belapur, Navi Mumbai.  Books related to Yoga, Naturopathy and well being will be available for sale at attractive discounted prices.

Yoga camp being set up at the historic Aga Khan Palace in Pune by ASI, India Tourism, Software Technology Park of India, CISF, Airport Authority and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sanghathan

The Archaeological Survey of India in collaboration with India Tourism, Software Technology Park of India, CISF, Airport Authority and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sanghathan is also organizing a yoga demonstration camp in the premises of historic Aga Khan Palace in Pune where students of Kendriya Vidyalaya will be participating.
