Yet another feather in the cap of ISRO: SSLV- D2 successfully launched from Sriharikota

Posted On: 10 FEB 2023 12:51PM by PIB Chennai

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched SSLV-D2  from Sriharikota today (10.02.2023) at 9.18 hrs. The Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) successfully injected EOS-07 satellite and  two co- passenger satellites- Janus-1 and AzaadiSAT-2 into 450 km circular orbit.

The launch vehicle  which has the capacity to launch mini, micro or nano satellites into 500 km planar orbit has three stages of solid propulsion and liquid propulsion based velocity trimming module. It provides low-cost access to space, offers low turn-around time and flexibility in accommodating multiple satellites and demands minimal launch infrastructure.

The EOS-07 satellite weighing 156.3 kg, developed by ISRO has a mission life of 1 year. The mission objective was to design and develop payload instruments compatible with a micro satellite bus and new technologies that are required for future operational satellites and to design and develop a micro satellite accommodating new technology payloads in a quick turn-around time.

The 10.2kg Janus-1 is a technology demonstrator smart satellite, based on USA’s  Antaris software platform. On the other hand,  the AzaadiSAT-2 weighing around 8.8kg has been developed by a team of Space Kidz India, a Chennai based Indian Aerospace Startup. About 750 girl students were guided to develop the payloads. The NanoSAT aims to demonstrate LoRa and amateur radio communication capabilities, measuring radiation levels in space.
