Sub-regional Office of Field Operations Division, National Statistical Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India, Bhavnagar organised a seminar and quiz competition on 16^th February 2023 in Bhavnagar in association with Maharaj Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University. This event was intended to enlighten the students about various facets of Indian Official Statistical System and promote awareness about NSO and its’ activities. Around 140 students from the M. K. Bhavnagar University including its’ affiliated colleges along with 11 faculty members participated in the event which was held in the senate hall of the University campus.

 

The event was inaugurated by Shri S K Bhanawat, Dy. DG & Regional Head of the Regional Office, Ahmedabad by lighting of lamp. In his inaugural address Shri Bhanawat, Dy. DG & Regional Head of the Regional Office, Ahmedabad highlighted the importance of official statistics in the policy formulations. Dr. M M Trivedi, Vice Chancellor, M K Bhavnagar University   thanked NSO for the seminar and advised the students to utilize the information shared during this seminar for better future prospects. Dr. Umesh M Raval, OSD, Examination & Prof. & Head, Department of Statistics, M J College of Commerce, Bhavnagar motivated the students to give emphasis on learning. Dr. Sanjay Srivastava, Prof. & Head, Department of Statistics, Sir P. P. Institute of Science, Bhavnagar also participated in the event.  Smt. H B Jajal, SSO & Incharge of the Sub-Regional Office made a presentation on various surveys being undertaken by NSO and about the career opportunities for the students in the field of Statistics. The quiz was conducted by Senior Statistical Officers Ms. Kunali and Ms. Ann E. Navina. Shri A J Parmar, Assistant Director, Regional Office, Ahmedabad alongwith other officials of SRO also participated in the event.   Team comprising Mr.Galiya Mihir & Mr. Bhavesh Dihora from Dept. of Statistics, M K Bhavnagar university stood as winners of the quiz competition. Team comprising Mr. Gariya Pranav J & Mr. Digesh Gadhadara & from M J College of Commerce and team comprising Mr. Ghaghalka Harsh & Mr. Bhatt Madhav from Sir P P Institute of Science stood as Second and Third respectively. These students were awarded with exciting prizes. Other students who participated in the Quiz were given certificate of participation.
