Rejuvenation of Kidderpore Docks

For enhancement of the containerised traffic for catering to the demand of the landlocked states, Nepal, Bhutan and other regions of the hinterland, unlocking of complete potential of Kidderpore Dock of Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (SMP), Kolkata has initiated the project Rejuvenation of Kidderpore Docks (Dock 1- West) through PPP (Public Private Partnership) mode on DBFOT (Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer) basis at Kolkata docks system (KDS) at a cost of Rs. 181.81 Cr. (Phase-I: INR 95.66 Cr.; Phase-II: INR 86.15 Cr.) to be implemented in two phases.

M/s Century Ports Limited, the Concessionaire, had signed the Concession Agreement on September 26, 2022. After fulfilling conditions precedent including financial closure, Award of Concession was handed over to M/s Century Ports Limited in presence of Shri Rathindra Raman, Chairman, SMP Kolkata for a concession period of 30 years including 18 months of construction time for each phase. Capacity of the project in Phase-I is 3.0 MMTPA & Phase-II is 2.48 MMTPA. Cargo like containers, finished fertilisers, food grains, iron and steel products, Aluminium Ingots, Pig Iron, Sugar, Limestone etc. will be handled.

In the above programme, Shri Ashutosh Jaiswal, Director, M/s Century Ports Limited and Shri Samrat Rahi, Dy. Chairman (KDS), Shri Goutam Mandal, Chief Engineer, Shri Srinivas Rao, Dy. Chief Engineer and other HoDs from Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata were also present.

Appreciating this significant achievement, Shri Rathendra Raman, Chairman, SMP Kolkata stated that despite being the only riverine major port in the country, SMP Kolkata has been constantly maintaining its pivotal position in Indian Major Ports for the past 153 years.
