The National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) is starting a new cinematic  initiative -  "NMIC’s Chronicles of Timeless Treasures" at the National Museum of Indian Cinema (NFDC-NMIC), in proximity to the National Film Archive of India (NFDC-NFAI), at Pedder Road in Mumbai. This is a collaborative effort of the NFDC-NMIC and NFDC-NFAI to bring together the essence of India's cinematic heritage.

The inaugural event of " NMICs’s Chronicles of Timeless Treasures," pays homage to the legendary film "Pyaasa," directed by Guru Dutt, which holds a significant place in Indian cinema history. Released in 1957, "Pyaasa" is a masterpiece known for its compelling narrative and exceptional performances. The film stars Guru Dutt himself, along with Waheeda Rehman, Mala Sinha, and Johnny Walker, who brought the characters to life with their remarkable talent.

As part of this cinematic journey into the past, audiences will have the opportunity to relish iconic films like "Pyaasa" that have shaped the Indian film industry. This is a tribute to the visionary filmmakers, actors, and technicians who have shaped the Indian film industry.

The screenings will take place every Saturday at 4 pm in the auditorium of NMIC, offering cinephiles and enthusiasts a chance to immerse themselves in the magic of classic movies.

The movie screenings are free for all museum visitors on a first-come, first-served basis. This allows everyone to experience the joy of watching these timeless treasures on the big screen without any cost.

This joint endeavour showcases the commitment of NFDC and its wings to promote and preserve the rich legacy of Indian cinema. NMIC and NFAI, esteemed institutions under the umbrella of NFDC, are dedicated to the preservation, archiving, and promotion of India's cinematic heritage. NMIC serves as a homage to the captivating world of Indian films, while NFAI safeguards and restores invaluable cinematic treasures under the National Film Heritage Mission. Their combined efforts epitomize NFDC's vision to honour and preserve the legacy of Indian cinema for generations to come.

About NMIC

The National Museum of Indian Cinema (NMIC) was inaugurated on 19th January, 2019, by the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India at the Films Division Complex, Mumbai. It is housed in two buildings - the New Museum Building and the 19th-century heritage building, Gulshan Mahal. The museum showcases the history of Indian cinema with a wide range of artifacts, digital elements, interactive screens, film clippings, diorama multimedia kiosks, and more. NMIC not only serves as a valuable resource for the general public but also supports filmmakers, students, enthusiasts, and critics in understanding and appreciating the evolution of cinema as an artistic medium. The museum is open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday.

About NFHM

The National Film Heritage Mission (NFHM) was launched by the Government of India to preserve and protect the rich heritage of Indian cinema. It focuses on the conservation of film reels and associated content, digitization, and improvement of archival and storage practices. The mission aims to prevent the deterioration of India's film heritage caused by factors like fragile film reels and chemical instability. NFDC is dedicated to continuing the objectives of NFHM by conserving film reels, digitizing content, and enhancing archival and storage systems to facilitate research and documentation.
