The Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), in collaboration with UNICEF and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), hosted a workshop on Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting (BRSR) at ICAI Bhawan, Indore. The workshop was designed to provide conceptual understanding and practical guidance on the BRSR framework, which is a new mandate by SEBI as a reporting requirement for the top 1000 listed companies in India.

The workshop also explored the interlinkages among Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) aspects, BRSR and the National Guidelines for Responsible Business Conduct (NGRBC). The participants learned about the benefits of good vs. bad BRSR, the role of ESG and CSR in brand building, and the application of family friendly policies in business. The workshop also featured a session on sustainability challenges from industries, where Mr. Sanjay Sharma, Chairperson of Energy and Environment at PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, shared his insights.

The workshop was inaugurated by CA MausamRathi, chairman, ICAI, Indore, key note address was delivered by CA Sripriya Kumar, Central Council Member of ICAI and special address delivered by CA KemishaSoni, vice-chairperson of the Financial Reporting Review Board of ICAI. The technical sessions were led by Dr. GarimaDadhich, Associate Professor and Head of School of Business Environment (SoBE) at IICA. Dr. Ravi Raj Atrey, Chief Programme Executive at SoBE, IICA focused on ESG-CSR as a branding perspective, Ms. KavithaDhanraj, Public Relations Officer at UNICEF, and Mr. ShubrajyotiBhowmik, Partnership Officer – UNICEF, elucidated on the family friendly policies based on NGRBC principles for effective BRSR.

The workshop attracted around 40 participants from various domains such as industry experts, corporate professionals, sustainability experts and industry chamber members. The workshop concluded with a networking lunch and an open house session for feedback and queries.

The workshop was part of a series of workshops on BRSR that IICA is conducting in different cities across India. The next workshops will be held in Delhi on 26th September and in Bengaluru on 29th September 2023.
