Under the Scheme ‘PRADHAN MANTRI - ANUSUCHIT JAATI ABHYUDAY YOJANA’ (PM-AJAY) of Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, there is a provision of Residential Schools under which the Districts/States/Central Ministry can propose to set up residential Schools through the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Society/Eklavya Model Residential Schools Society and similar Government/autonomous bodies. Further, project for expansion of the existing residential schools in SC concentrated Districts is given preference to accommodate more SC students in these Schools by expanding the existing infrastructure of JNV, EMRS or the like. The expanded capacity is utilized to enroll more SC students to the extent of the capacity increase.
The Ministry of Tribal Affairs is also implementing the central sector scheme of Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) to provide quality education to the tribal children, for both boys and girls, in their own environment. Government decided to establish EMRSs in every block having more than 50% ST population and at least 20,000 tribal persons (as per census 2011) at par with Navodaya Vidyalayas. Accordingly, Ministry has set the target of establishing 740 EMRSs to benefit about 3.5 lakh ST students across the country, including Uttar Pradesh. Presently, 694 EMRSs have been sanctioned, out of which 401 are reported functional country-wide. The State wise details of EMRSs is at Annexure-1.
No proposal of residential schools has been received from Uttar Pradesh under the PM-AJAY scheme . However, Ministry of Tribal Affairs has sanctioned 4 EMRSs in the State of Uttar Pradesh (status details is attached at Annexure-2). As per the existing norms, no more blocks have been identified in Machhlisahr Parliamentary Constituency for establishment of EMRS.
This information was given by the Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Shri A Narayanaswamy in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today.
