The Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shri Shantanu Thakur laid the foundation stone of the ‘Anti-erosion Work’ more particularly the ‘River Hooghly Protection Works’ for a length of 3437.00 metres (850 metres at Tarinipur to Kalipur ferry ghat, 900 metres at Tarinipur (South), 1100 metres at Ganga Manoharpur, 387 metres at Char Jatra Siddhi and 200 metres at Sarati & Raidanga) in the district Nadia on Saturday (December 16, 2023).

The cost of the project is Rs 17 crore. The money is supposed to come from the Sagarmala fund.

Among the dignitaries present were the Chairman of Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (SMP), Kolkata, Shri Rathendra Raman and MLA Chakdaha, Shri Bankim Chandra Ghosh.

The work included laying of Darma mat under water (8 metre width along the river), dumping of earth/sand filled gunny/poly cement bag in nylon crate, construction of toe sausage wall with stone boulder , laying of earth/ sand filled HDPE bag in nylon crate for apron and slope pitching.

The time for completion of the project is 10 months
