CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) organized an outreach program as a prelude to the 9th edition of India International Science Festival (IISF) on its campus at Dona Paula on Monday, 18.12.2023. 
The program, held in association with Vidnyan Parishad – Goa, was inaugurated by Prof. Harilal B. Menon, Vice Chancellor, Goa University. Addressing the gathering, Prof. Menon highlighted the relevance of technology in the present time. 

Dr. Suhas Godse, Chairman, Vidnyan Parishad – Goa; Shri Jaykumar, former secretary general, VIBHA; and Dr. Maria Judith Gonsalves, Senior Principal Scientist, CSIR-NIO, also spoke at the vent. Prof. Sunil Kumar Singh welcomed the gathering while the vote of thanks was delivered by Shri Sundaresh, Head, Marine Archaeology, NIO.

At the event, students visited the NIO exhibitions on innovations in marine science and technology which helped them garner knowledge about latest developments in ocean research. They also interacted with the scientists at the institute. Awareness sessions on various scientific topics and film shows were also held as part of the event. Several students, teachers, researchers and scientists from various institutes participated in the program. 

So far, eight editions of IISF have been organized since 2015. The ninth edition will be held from 17 to 20 January, 2024, at DBT RCB-THSTI Campus, Faridabad, Haryana, with the theme of 'Science and Technology - Public Outreach in Amrit Kaal'.  Several scientific institutions across the nation have organised outreach programmes ahead of the 9th IISF and more are scheduled this month. The mega science festival aims to honour and highlight the scientific achievements in Science, Technology and Innovation by the country. The primary objective of the festival is to connect science with the society.

The festival aims to provide a platform for inspiring public at large and individuals with diverse levels of interests like students, educators and build scientific temper among the masses and to create awareness regarding scientific knowledge.

The IISF is dedicated towards fostering creativity in Science, Technology and Innovation for the advancement of prosperous India. The event was initiated under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi through collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Earth Sciences in association with Vijnana Bharati.
