Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned a number of projects under PRASHAD and SWADESH schemes for infrastructure development at tourist destinations in the state of Maharashtra. The Central Government’s ‘Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive' (PRASHAD) and 'Swadesh Darshan' (SD) schemes, provides financial assistance to State Governments and Union Territory Administrations for this purpose.

Shri Ghrushneshwar Shivalaya at Aurangabad, Tuljapur in Dharashiv and Shree Kshetra Rajur, Ganpati Temple in Jalna have been sanctioned for development under the PRASAD scheme. Similarly, tourist destinations in Sindhudurg will be developed under Swadesh Darshan 2.0. An amount of  Rs 52.92 crore was sanctioned for the development of Trimbakeshwar at Nashik in 2017-18. Under spiritual circuit theme of SWADESH scheme, Rs 53.96 crore was sanctioned in 2018-19 for development of Waki-Adasa-Dhapewada-Paradsingha-Telankhandi-Girad in the state. Under the same scheme, Rs 19.06 crore was sanctioned in 2015-16 for development of tourist destinations in Sindhudurg, that includes Sagareshwar, Tarkarli, Vijaydurg Beach & Creek and Mitbhav.

The Tourism Ministry as on date has sanctioned 46 projects under PRASHAD and 76 projects under Swadesh Darshan Scheme across the country which includes religious sites also, in addition new sites has been identified for development under both the schemes. Identification of the destinations and approval of projects under the Schemes is a continuous process which is carried out by the Ministry in consultation with the respective State Governments and Union Territory Administrations.

This has been stated by Union Minister for Tourism, Culture and DoNER, Shri G. Kishan Reddy in reply to an unstarred question in Lok Sabha on Monday (December 18, 2023).
