DGFT organizes capacity building program on e-commerce exports, foreign trade policy, packaging, payments and banking at Thane

A capacity building program on E-commerce exports, Foreign Trade Policy, packaging, payments and banking was organized by the office of the Additional Director General of Foreign Trade, Mumbai at Thane, Maharashtra today (29.12.2023). Thane is a thriving industrial hub with industries in sectors such as apparel, industrial goods, pharmaceuticals and a variety of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The programme was organized in collaboration with India Post, Ministry of MSME, Thane Small Scale Industry Association (TSSIA), Chamber of Small Industries Association (COSIA), ICICI bank and a B2B e-commerce platform named Rivexa. Approximately 100 exporters/entrepreneurs/ SMEs attended the programme.

Shri R.K. Mishra, Additional Director General of Foreign Trade, Mumbai stressed on the need to link local products with global markets through new channels made available by internet.  Duty neutralization available under Advance Authorization and Export Promotion Capital Goods (EPCG) schemes under the Foreign Trade Policy 2023 and the thrust of the Government of India on E-Commerce exports was also explained. A session by India Post was taken on Dak Niryat Kendras (DNK) initiative for e-commerce exports.  A session by Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) informed the audience about the packaging needs for e-commerce exports.

Information on Schemes implemented by Ministry of MSME such as Micro and Small Enterprises Industries- Cluster Development Program (MSE-CDP), funding for participation in domestic/international fairs, business incubator policy, Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries (SFURTI) was shared.

The banking related regulations and compliances required were explained by an official from ICICI Bank, which included issues related to payments for E-commerce exports. The session by Rivexa informed exporters about the process of onboarding, transacting and fulfilment through e-commerce.

The office of Additional Director General of Foreign Trade is geared to collaborate and co-ordinate with industry associations, industrial clusters continuously so that such capacity building programmes, and outreach sessions are held where the industries need it, and the potential of E-commerce exports is realized.
