A Matsya Sampada Jakrukta Abhiyan programme was organised at the Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical & EngineeringTraining (CIFNET) in Kochi. The objective of the programme was to disseminate information and knowledge about the Pradhan Mantri MatsyaSampada Yojana (PMMSY), its implementation & achievements and to highlight its success stories. The programme was conducted for various stakeholders including fishermen,officials of the fisheries department, students and the public. 

Shri M. Habibullah, Director, CIFNET presided over the Workshop. The inaugural address was delivered by Dr GeorgeNinan, Director, CIFT-ICAR, Kochi.Shri Mahesh S., Joint Director (Central Zone), Dept. of Fisheries, Govt. ofKerala; Smt. Maja Jose, Dy. Director (Trg.) NIFAM, Kerala; Shri JohnsonD’cruz, Dy Director, MPEDA, Kochi  and Dr K. B. Bijumon, SI(FT), CIFNETdelivered lectures on various aspects of the PMMSY scheme and its benefits for fishermen.The Annual Report of CIFNET was also released at the function and course certificates were issued to the fishermen of Lakshadweep. 

Dr. Shine Kumar, Director, NIFPHATT, Dr. Sijo.P. Varghese, Zonal Director, FSI, Kochi, and Shri Santhosh, State Co-ordinator,NETFISH-MPEDA and other officials attended the function. 

318 people including 63 fishermen from different districts of Kerala, Lakshadweep Islands, and Colachel, Tamil Naduattended the programme. 

CIFNET is a premier training Institute,under the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying established to provide trained manpower to cater to the requirements of the marine fisheries sector of the country.
