Government E- Market Place, Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute signed MoU

GeM (Government EMarketplace), India's leading online public procurement platform, is delighted to announce a strategic partnership with EDII (Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute).
Government EMarketplace (GeM) is the public procurement portal for procurement of goods and services for all Central Government and State Government Ministries, Departments, Public Sector Units (PSUs) and affiliated. GeM endeavours to make public procurement process transparent, efficient and inclusive. In the financial year 2023-2024, procurement of goods and services from government portal Government EMarketplace has already crossed the INR 3 lakh crore mark in a single financial year, which is a remarkable achievement. Procurement figures for this financial year is now likely to touch figure of Rs 4 Lakh crore and this Portal is on its way to top procurement Portal in the world
GeM is taking concerted efforts towards facilitating State Government Departments to enhance the procurement through the portal, with an intent to onboard all state buyers and local sellers. GeM has sought the services of Ernst & Young (EY) as consultants for increasing the adoption of GeM with State Governments.
Established in 2001, the Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute (EDII), Chennai is an apex organisation in the field of entrepreneurship education and self-employment promotion in the state of Tamil Nadu. EDII was constituted by Government of Tamil Nadu as a not-for-profit society and is administered by Department of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME). Headed by the Director of the Institute, EDII is managed under the superintendence of a Governing Council, appointed by the Government of Tamil Nadu.
Tamil Nadu ranks the fourth among the registered MSEs on the GeM portal across States in India. INR 24,723 Cr of business has been received by MSMEs of the State. In the current fiscal year, MSME sellers registered in Tamil Nadu have supplied orders worth INR 13,637 Crore through GeM in which INR 6,300 Crore is by MSE units registered in the state and there is a huge potential for the State MSMEs to register and receive more orders from Central Government Organizations, CPSUs and from other State Government Departments, Organization and State PSUs and developments in the MSME sector in Tamil Nadu.
Recognizing the potential for growth and collaboration, GeM has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to EDII to jointly enhance the MSME participation on GeM. The agreement outlines the commitments and collaborative efforts of both parties to promote transparency, efficiency, and inclusivity in public procurement processes. The partnership between GeM and EDII holds immense potential for growth and development of MSME sector in Tamil Nadu. This strategic partnership between EDIIT and GeM is likely to benefit budding entrepreneurs from Tamil Nadu and encourage innovation by them
MoU was signed on 16 February 2024 at Chennai by Shri Prakash Mirani, JS & ACEO Government EMarketplace (GeM) and Thiru. C. Umashankar, IAS., Additional Chief Secretary/Director, EDII in the presence of Shri AV Muralidharan, Additional Director General and Chief Product Officer, Government EMarketplace (GeM), Shri Sabareesh N, Consultant, GeM and Shri Allwin M, Consultant, GeM and Shri Mohan, Joint Director, EDII and Shri Kamalakannan, Deputy Director, EDII.
