Union Textiles Minister Shri Piyush Goyal hands over cheques of pending salary dues to NTC Ltd. employees

Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs and Food & Public Distribution and Textiles Shri Piyush Goyal handed over cheques for 50% pending wages to the workers representatives of National Textile Corporation Limited (NTC) in a programme organized at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai today. The representatives from recognized workers unions from Western and Southern Region were present on the occasion. Around 7000 NTC Ltd workers employed in 20 mills will benefit from it. The Joint Secretary, Ministry of Textiles and CMD, NTC Ltd. Smt. Prajakta L. Verma was also present on the occasion.

The pending wages of NTC employees were halted since the imposition of lockdown during COVID 19, and subsequent financial constraints faced by NTC.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Textiles Minister Shri Piyush Goyal said, it is unfortunate that COVID affected the company so heavily and created difficult conditions including cash flow losses. The employees became victims of the pandemic, said Shri Goyal expressing regret.  Shri Goyal stated, a significant amount of the TDR (Transfer of Development Rights) could be sold despite a lot of difficulties, due to which it has been possible to clear the salary dues. He further stated that NTC employees’ pending salary dues upto December 2021 will be cleared today. “Within the next 30 – 40 days, we are confident that we will be able to clear another 8 months’ dues, that is upto August 2022”, he further said and added that entire salary dues will be cleared at the earliest.

Shri Goyal further stated that expert opinion from all stakeholders, including those in the Government of India, Government of Maharashtra was taken for the matter. He added that CMD, NTC ltd. studied the problem with a lot of empathy and, practically to understand how they can get the best value, considering what can be best received vis-a-vis market situation. It was also studied as to how to bring in highest amount of transparency in the entire system, through online auctions and ensuring every stakeholders’ participation, added the Union Minister.

The MLA of Wadala Constituency Shri Kalidas Kolambkar and Member of Maharashtra Legislative Council Shri Sachin Ahir were also present on the occasion.
