To make the world a little more accessible for visually impaired passengers, Eastern Railway has undertaken the job of making easier their journey through Braille navigation at different stations. With this, visually impaired passengers can independently navigate ticket counters and other facilities provided at stations without the assistance of a fellow passenger.
As an important step towards this, Braille navigation maps have been installed at Sealdah and Kolkata Railway stations with the assistance of the social organisation (NGO) "Anuprayas." These Braille navigation maps have also been installed at Howrah station.
The goal of this noble initiative is to enable visually impaired passengers to navigate stations independently. The Braille navigation maps, strategically placed at the entrances of Sealdah, Kolkata, and Howrah stations, measure 4 feet by 2 feet. These maps provide detailed guidance on identifying various essential services and facilities within the station, such as ticket counters, concourse areas, water taps, toilets, waiting rooms, cloakrooms, platform numbers, entry and exit points, escalators, lifts, and the "May I Help You" desks.
This initiative not only facilitates easy travel for visually impaired passengers but also creates an environment where they can move confidently through the public spaces of the stations.

Shri Kaushik Mitra, Chief Public Relations Officer of Eastern Railway, stated, "The installation of Braille navigation maps meets the needs of visually impaired passengers and significantly enhances their travel experience and ability to navigate independently."
