International Day of Yoga celebrated with great fanfare at iconic locations and by various organizations in Mumbai

The 10th International Yoga Day (IDY) has been celebrated with great fervour and enthusiastic participation from citizens across Mumbai today. Yoga demonstration sessions were organized by many organizations, many of which were held in iconic landmarks of the city and led by eminent personalities.


The Governor of Maharashtra Shri Ramesh Bais led the yoga session at Raj Bhawan which was joined by Raj Bhawan, Coast Guard and Press Information Bureau Officers. The yoga session at Raj Bhavan was conducted jointly by 'Kaivalyadhama' yoga institute and the Shrimad Rajchandra Mission Dharampur (SRMD- Yoga). The Chief Minister Shri Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Shri Devendra Fadnavis led the yoga session at the iconic Gateway of India. More than three thousand citizens participate in the mass yoga demonstration orchestrated by Mumbai Port Trust, India Tourism- Mumbai and Ministry of Textiles, in association with Patanjali Yogpith. Yuva Tourism Clubs participated in large numbers. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Shri Piyush Goyal participated in a yoga session at Poinsur Gymkhana in Kandivali West.





The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) had organized a yoga session under the guidance of Yogacharya Prabha Shettya and Gayatri at their Vile Parle based head office.

IIT Bombay observed 10th IDY in their Powai campus today, with a variety of events designed to promote physical, mental & spiritual well-being. Robust involvement from students, faculty, staff and families was observed, which underscored IIT-B's dedication to fostering a healthy & balanced lifestyle.

IIM Mumbai celebrated the 10th IDY at Swami Vivekananda Hall in their campus at Powai. The institute has uploaded relevant information and links on yoga in their website.


10th IDY was celebrated with great grandeur at various Centrally Protected Monuments of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) Mumbai Circle today morning. ASI, in collaboration with India Tourism and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sanghathan celebrated IDY at the premises of the monuments of Ambernath Temple in Thane, Kanheri Caves Mumbai, and also Karle – Bhaje- Pataleshwar Caves and Agakhan Palace Pune. The program at ASI Mumbai Circle office at Sion Fort was celebrated under guidance of Dr. T. Shrilakhmi, Regional Director Western Region. At Kanheri Caves in Borivali, Mumbai, the demonstration and practice of Yoga was under the guidance of certified Yoga and Naturopathy expert Mrs. Shubhangi Katkar. At Aga Khan Palace, Pune, yoga for all the visitors was arranged in collaboration with the Prajapati Brahamkumari Ishwariya University, Pune and 50 NCC Cadets of Maharashtra Signal Coy NCC Pune. Prajapati Brahamkumari Ishwariya University, Pune sisters conducted yoga sadhana at Pataleshwar Caves too. Despite the heavy rainfall, 10th IDY was enthusiastically celebrated on the different Monuments of ASI Mumbai Circle.

Over 9000 naval personnel, defence civilians and family members from Mumbai-headquartered Indian Navy, Western Naval Command participated in the 10th IDY to celebrate the age old practice of yoga for unity of mind, body and spirit at various naval establishments, ships and submarines.
The tradition of celebrating International Yoga Day nationwide was started by Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, and due to his relentless efforts 21st June was declared as the International Yoga Day by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015. With this declaration, the world has accepted that Yoga is an invaluable gift of ancient Indian tradition and the most trusted means to boost physical and mental well-being.
This year, the Ministry of Ayush has coined the theme “Yoga for Self and Society”. This year's focus is on the transformative power of yoga to enhance the well-being of Individuals and contribute to a healthier society.

Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities (Divyangjan), Mumbai [AYINISHD(D)), an autonomous national institute under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPWD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MSJ&E), celebrated International Yoga Day on the theme "Yoga for Self and Society' with great enthusiasm and participation. These sessions focused on the multifaceted benefits of yoga, encompassing physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Participants, especially the children with special needs, received personalized guidance from the experts. The yoga exercises and routines demonstrated were tailored to enhance their daily health practices, aiming to significantly improve their overall quality of life.

Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), TIFR, yoga event featured Dr. Eesha Talawadekar, a yoga expert, and saw active participation from the HBCSE staff, eager to learn yoga techniques that could be easily integrated into their daily routines. The session focused on introducing exercises that are beneficial for managing stress and promoting a healthier, stress-free lifestyle.
Shri Ashok Kumar Misra, General Manager of Western Railway and Smt. Kshama Misra, President of WRWWO, along with senior railway officers and staff presided over the WR event at Utsav Hall, Badhwar Park, Mumbai. The session highlighted yoga’s dual role in fostering individual and societal well-being. Yoga sessions were also organized at all the six divisions over Western Railway where officers and staff along with their family members participated in good numbers. Informative & attractive web cards were posted through WR social media handles promoting the benefits of Yoga and how Yoga has brought the world together, reshaping the global values, and bringing different healthcare systems closer.

Central Railway's yoga session was organised at CSMT auditorium in Mumbai today, where Central Railway General Manager Ram Karan Yadav, Smt. Chitra Yadav, President, CRWWO, and other Central Railway senior officers participated in the session which emphasised on the transformative power of regular yoga for a balanced lifestyle.
