Geological Survey of India, Central Headquarters organizes Mass Cleaning Drive under "Swachhata Hi Seva 2024" Campaign

The Geological Survey of India organized a massive cleanliness drive at its Central Headquarters, Kolkata as part of the nation-wide "Swachhata Hi Seva" campaign aligned with this year’s theme, "Swabhav Swachhata - Sanskaar Swachhata," highlighting the importance of cleanliness as an ingrained behaviour, nurtured through active community participation.

The event was inaugurated by Shri Asit Saha, Director General, GSI, in the presence of senior officers from GSI, along with swachhata volunteers and the local community. Employees from GSI actively participated in cleaning the headquarters premises, demonstrating their commitment to the Swachh Bharat Mission.

Speaking on the occasion, the DG, GSI emphasized the significance of cleanliness, not only in the workplace but also in daily life. He pointed out that the "Swachhata Hi Seva" campaign is a powerful national initiative with the potential to elevate cleanliness standards across the country. He urged for continuous efforts in maintaining clean surroundings.
Dr. Joyesh Bagchi, Additional Director General, commended the efforts of all participants and expressed his appreciation for the commitment shown by GSI employees towards the campaign. He highlighted the critical role of collective responsibility in maintaining clean and healthy work environments. Shri Joydeep Guha, ADG & HOD, mentioned in his address that GSI conducted a Swachhata/cleanliness drive under the "Swachhata Hi Seva" campaign from 17th September to 1st October 2024, covering 9 geo-heritage sites and 34 Cleanliness Target Units, with a total of 250 events organized across the country. Additionally, plantation drive was also organised at the cleanliness sites under the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" initiative.

Following the distribution of sanitation kits to volunteers, the Shramdaan for Swachhata commenced, with teams of volunteers diligently cleaning the premises and surroundings of GSI’s buildings at 27 J.L. Nehru Road, 15A&B Kyd Street, and 29 J.L. Nehru Road. The waste collected during the drive was responsibly handed over to local municipal authorities for proper disposal.

This cleanliness drive further reinforces GSI’s dedication to environmental sustainability and community welfare, marking another step in its continuous mission to positively impact society and the environment.
