The passenger traffic across all four divisions of Eastern Railway (ER) has seen a significant increase in the 2024-2025 (April to October) period. The latest figures reveal robust growth in both suburban and non-suburban areas, underscoring a continued upward trajectory in demand for public transportation services.
The implementation of ticket checking and passenger sensitisation programmes have played a crucial role in ensuring compliance and encouraging greater use of public transport, significantly contributing to the surge in passenger traffic, stated the Railway authority today. Such efforts helped in raising awareness about the benefits of using public transit while promoting responsible travel behaviour, helping to instil confidence in commuters. Additionally, the introduction of multiple payment modes, such as ATVMs (Automatic Ticket Vending Machines) and JTBS (Journey Ticket Booking Systems), have made ticket purchasing more convenient and accessible. By offering cashless payment options, mobile apps, and smart card systems, these innovations have streamlined the boarding process, reduced waiting times, and enhanced overall passenger experience, making public transport a more attractive and user-friendly option for the commuters.
