The Government of India is conducting National Sample Surveys to collect the data on various socio-economic indicators employing scientific sampling methods since 1950. The eightieth round (80th) of NSS scheduled to commence from 1 January 2025 is earmarked for collection of data on health and ‘Comprehensive modular survey’ for collection of information on health and telecom related indicators. Further, Government of India will simultaneously start two more surveys i.e. ASUSE and PLFS .The ASUSE survey which will be devoted exclusively to economic and operational characteristics of unincorporated non-agriculture establishment in manufacturing, trade and other services sector. The PLFS Survey has been the primary source of statistics on labour force, activity participation of the population and structure of employment and unemployment in the country.
The survey on ‘household Social Consumption Health’ is introduced to cater the emerging need of information on socio-economic indicators. This survey will help us in the determination of the prevalence rate of morbidity among various age groups in different regions of the country and the expenditure incurred on treatment received from public and private medical sector with special emphasis on ‘out of pocket expense’ , are all to be investigated by the survey. The data collected in the survey will also enable assessment of the population who are affected by some widespread communicable diseases.
The Objective of the Comprehensive Modular Survey (CMS) on telecom is to collect and provide information on telecom-related indicators and ICT skills to address the requirement of DoT, MeitY etc. The collected data will also be used for reporting of global indices by line ministries/departments.
Further, Unincorporated sector is an integral part of Indian economy, which not only comprises of large number of establishments but also generates a large number of employments. Besides, its contribution to Gross Domestic Product of the country is also significant. This necessitates the need for reliable and comprehensive data pertaining to the unincorporated sector for planning and policy formulations. The data to be collected through this survey will help in meeting the requirements of different Ministries and Organizations. In comparison to previous ASUSE survey this time Number of FSU’s have been increased in ASUSE 2025 for wide coverage.
Further, The objective of PLFS are to generate estimates of the key labour market indicators viz. labour market indicators viz Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR), Worker Population Ratio (WPR) and Unemployment Rate (UR) in the Current Weekly Status (CWS) at all-India level, separately for rural and urban sectors at monthly intervals and for all State/UTs as well as all-India with rural and urban bifurcation at quarterly intervals.
