Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) organised a half-day awareness program for jewellers in collaboration with the Kankavali Jewellers Association yesterday, 14th January 2024, at Kankavali, Sindhudurg. The event, attended by 40 local jewellers, focused on BIS certification, hallmarking, and the BIS CARE app.

The program emphasized the importance of adhering to BIS standards to ensure product quality and consumer protection. Participants were introduced to the Hallmark Unique Identification (HUID) system and demonstrated how to verify HUID numbers using the BIS CARE app. They were also informed about the mandatory Hallmarking Order.
Scientist-D/Joint Director, T. Arjun, briefed the attendees on compliance procedures for the BIS Hallmarking Scheme and its significance. During a Q&A session, participants enquired about sample testing, HUID number record-keeping, and actions for repeated sample failures. The session concluded with positive feedback, as participants appreciated BIS's efforts to promote quality and transparency in the jewellery industry.
