Training program on “Chemical and Petrochemical Industrial Safety” in Bengaluru

The Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals (DCPC), Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Govt. of India is taking a nationwide training initiative aimed at enhancing industrial safety across the chemicals and petrochemicals sectors under the 100-Day action plan of Viksit Bharat @ 2047.
The program entitled “Safe Handling of Hazardous Chemicals at the Workplace and Reducing Risks Associated with Hazardous Chemicals,” is designed to strengthen safety awareness and operational competence within Major Accident Hazard (MAH) units across India. In this context, Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET) is organizing a two-day residential training program on “Chemical and Petrochemical Industrial Safety” for Major Accident Hazard (MAH) units during January 30-31, 2025 at CIPET: SARP-APDDRL, Bengaluru.
In this training program, more than 100 participants from various MAH units of Chemicals and Petrochemicals sectors in Karnataka will participate. Total 17 sessions will be conducted on topics such as Best Practices for Safe Work Place in Hazardous Environment, Process Safety Management, the golden Rules of Transporting Hazardous Material, Environmental Protection and Spill Prevention, Mock-up drill, Industrial Toxicology, Advanced Risk Assessment techniques etc in which Experts from CIPET, industry specialists, and subject matter experts from various esteemed organisations are invited to provide a detailed insight on the subject matter.
The DCPC has taken this initiative to impart training on Chemical safety to all 2393 MAH units and conduct the same in industrial clusters so as to maximise the participation. In total, Department has planned to conduct 48 such training programs, preferably, in industrial clusters across the country to cover all MAH Units over a period of 5 years.
The chemicals and petrochemicals industry plays a vital role in the economic growth of the nation. However, it also involves inherent risks, particularly in units handling hazardous substances. Ensuring robust safety protocols and training skilled professionals is essential to protect human lives and safeguard the environment.
