Strengthening Safety Standards in the Chemicals and Petrochemicals Sector under the 100-Day action plan of Viksit Bharat@2047

As part of a nationwide training initiative of the Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals (DCPC), Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Govt. of India, Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET) organized a two-day residential training program on “Chemical and Petrochemical Industrial Safety” for Major Accident Hazard (MAH) units during January 30-31, 2025 at CIPET: SARP-APDDRL, Bengaluru.
In this training program, 127 participants from 60 MAH units of Chemicals and Petrochemicals sectors in Karnataka participated. Total 17 technical sessions were conducted on topics such as Best Practices for Safe Workplace in Hazardous Environment, Process Safety Management, the golden Rules of Transporting Hazardous Material, Environmental Protection and Spill Prevention, Mock-up drill, Industrial Toxicology, Advanced Risk Assessment techniques etc in which Experts from CIPET, industry specialists, and subject matter experts from various esteemed organisations provided a detailed insight on the subject matter.

This training initiative of DCPC is aimed at enhancing industrial safety across the chemicals and petrochemicals sectors under the 100-Day action plan of Viksit Bharat @ 2047. The program entitled “Safe Handling of Hazardous Chemicals at the Workplace and Reducing Risks Associated with Hazardous Chemicals,” is designed to strengthen safety awareness and operational competence within Major Accident Hazard (MAH) units across India.
This initiative underscores the Government of India’s commitment to ensure safety, sustainability, and accountability in the chemicals and petrochemicals sector. It reflects a proactive approach toward fostering a secure and environmentally responsible industrial landscape.
The DCPC has taken this initiative to impart training on Chemical safety to all 2393 MAH units and conduct the same in industrial clusters so as to maximise the participation. In total, the Department has planned to conduct 48 such training programs, preferably, in industrial clusters across the country to cover all MAH Units over a period of 5 years.
