The Hon’ble Minister of State for Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India, Shri. George Kurian visited the Central Institute of Coastal Engineering for Fishery (CICEF), Bengaluru, today.

During his visit, the Minister was apprised of CICEF’s pivotal role in planning, designing, and developing fishery harbours, fish landing centres, and aquaculture projects across India. Shri N Venkatesh Prasad, Director, CICEF presented an overview of the institute’s achievements, ongoing projects, and future initiatives aimed at enhancing coastal infrastructure to support the fisheries sector. The Minister emphasized the Government of India’s commitment to strengthening fisheries infrastructure and enhancing livelihood opportunities for coastal communities. While acknowledging the institute’s contributions towards promoting sustainable fisheries and blue economy initiatives, he encouraged CICEF to continue its efforts in scientific planning and engineering solutions for the sector.

Shri. George Kurian visited the institute’s technical divisions and engaged with experts on various aspects of harbour engineering, coastal aquaculture, and pre-feasibility studies. He commended the institute for its expertise and urged greater collaboration with state governments and stakeholders to accelerate fisheries development projects nationwide. The visit concluded with a review meeting where the Hon’ble Minister assured continued support from the Government of India for the institute’s initiatives and highlighted the importance of coastal infrastructure development.
