TECHNICAL SEMINAR ON 'TECHNOLOGICAL & TACTICAL ADVANCEMENTS IN EMPLOYMENT OF GROUND BASED AIR DEFENCE WEAPON SYSTEMS & LESSONS LEARNT FROM RECENT CONFLICTS'

Army Air Defence College Gopalpur hosted a two-day Technical Seminar on 'Technological & Tactical Advancements in Employment of Ground Based Air Defence Weapon Systems & Lessons Learnt from Recent Conflicts' on 21-22 March 2025. The seminar was organised to address monumental transformation in air threat, evolution and employment of Unmanned Aerial Systems, Counter Unmanned Aerial Systems and other technologically enabled advancements in aircrafts, missiles and radars witnessed in recent conflicts. It aimed to evolve workable organisational and procedural changes in employment of Ground Based Air Defence Weapon Systems in the Tactical Battle Area within the strategic framework for future ready Air Defence of the country. A suitable roadmap for Army Air Defence harnessing emerging niche technologies for next generation Air Defence solutions in harmony with 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' vision was the intended outcome. The seminar was conducted in three sessions with the panel discussions on the following themes: -
(a) Doctrinal Shift in Air Threat Landscape & Evolution of Air Def Strategies.
(b) Re-evaluating Air Def Strategies in Light of Emerging Conflict Dynamics.
(c) Atmanirbhar Bharat- Academia & Industry Perspective.

This event brought together eminent personalities and Air Defence think tank of the three services, Defence experts and leading academia and industry partners involved in policy formulation as well as Research and Development of Air Defence systems and solutions. The Keynote Address was delivered by Lieutenant General Sumer Ivan D'Cunha, Sena Medal, PhD, Director General & Colonel Commandant Army Air Defence which focused on Advancements in Radar Technologies, Electronic Warfare, Counter Drone Strategies and Integrated Air Defence Systems. Senior military officials, defence technology experts and industry representatives held multifarious panel discussions on the future of Air Defence Warfare & fostering collaboration between armed forces and private sector innovators.
A major highlight of the event was the demonstration of diverse Air Defence Solutions by participating vendors, showcasing detection, tracking and neutralisation technology to counter emerging aerial threats. This seminar served as a forum for fostering dialogue, collaboration and knowledge sharing among Air Defence think tank, defence experts and stakeholders from defence technology sector underscoring the growing significance of air defence modernisation and need for joint military-industrial efforts in developing robust Air Defence capabilities under the ambit of Atmanirbharta and Viksit Bharat 2047. The Technical Seminar culminated with a vote of thanks to all the participants by Maj Gen IS Panjrath, SM, VSM, Officiating Commandant, Army AD College.
