Racket of fake invoices busted

Officers of Anti-Evasion, CGST Pune-II Commissionerate have busted another syndicate of fake invoices, indulged in availing and passing of Input Tax Credit (ITC) to the tune of Rs. 25 Crores approximately. Invoices were issued without any physical movement of goods with an intention to avail and utilize fraudulent Input tax credit (ITC). The initial detection is of eight such fake firms/shell companies, of which six were based in Pune. The quantification of tax evaded and the territorial extent of fraudulent firms is being assessed. 

The three accused who are residents of Pune are the master-mind running the syndicate have been arrested so far. Further investigation and recovery proceedings from the firms which have availed the fraudulent Input Tax Credit (ITC) are underway. 

It is further stated that nine arrests have been made in past sixteen months, related to multiple fake GST Invoicing and fraudulent ITC peddling syndicates, active in Pune and nearby areas by CGST Pune-II Commissionerate. The Department is committed to uprooting the menace of fake ITC that defrauds the exchequer of its legitimate dues and damages the genuine taxpayers with unfair competition.
