The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Guwahati, has officially inaugurated the Centre for Experiential Learning and Simulation (CELS), a cutting-edge skills training centre designed to improve medical education and enhance clinical skills among healthcare professionals in Assam and the Northeast region.

 

The centre was inaugurated by Prof. (Col) Ashok Puranik, Executive Director, AIIMS Guwahati, in the presence of faculty members, healthcare professionals and other distinguished guests. CELS is set to provide high-fidelity simulation-based training, allowing students, medical practitioners, and allied healthcare professionals to gain practical experience in a controlled, risk-free environment.

Prof. Dr. Purabi Phukan, Professor and Head of the Department of Community and Family Medicine at AIIMS Guwahati, and Chairperson of the Simulation Laboratory Committee, emphasized that the centre will bridge the gap between theory and practice. It will offer hands-on training for MBBS students, nursing trainees, paramedics, and clinicians, thus strengthening the healthcare system in the region. The centre is equipped with advanced simulation technology, including patient mannequins, surgical simulators, and virtual reality-based learning tools, aimed at improving clinical skills, decision-making, and team collaboration.

 

In his address, Prof. (Col) Ashok Puranik highlighted the importance of simulation-based training in modern medical education. He stated, "CELS at AIIMS Guwahati represents a significant step forward in skill-based learning for healthcare professionals. This facility will play a key role in equipping the healthcare workforce in the Northeast with the necessary skills to provide high-quality patient care.
