Posted On: 15 APR 2025 7:03PM by PIB Bengaluru

Today, we all face a big problem — misinformation. Fake news, edited videos, and false stories are everywhere. But now, young tech minds are using AI to fight back. That’s where the TruthTell Hackathon comes in. Organized by the India Cellular & Electronics Association (ICEA) and the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, this global challenge invited people to build smart tools to catch false content in real-time — during live news, social media, and videos.

It’s part of the 32 Create in India Challenges as part of World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025  and will be featured at the grand finale at WAVES 2025 Mumbai from May 1–4.

Meet the Top 5 Winners

Out of more than 5,600 entries from across the world, 25 teams were shortlisted to present their ideas live in Delhi. And finally, these top 5 teams won a total prize of ₹10 lakh and a chance to showcase their work at WAVES 2025: Team Unicron (Delhi) built Anvesha, an AI tool that spots false information in text, images, and videos. Team Alchemist (Dehradun) created VeriStream, which checks facts in live broadcasts using AI and maps. Team Whooshing Liars (Bengaluru) made Nexus of Truth, which catches deepfakes and false news in multiple languages. Team Bug Smashers (Delhi) developed Live Truth, which gives live credibility scores and alerts using GPS. Team Vortex Squad (Bengaluru) designed a system that checks facts in real-time during live events.

Why This Matters

These young innovators are showing us how technology can protect the truth. Their tools are not just smart — they’re useful for everyone: news channels, social media users, and everyday people. Their work will now be seen by a global audience at WAVES 2025 in Mumbai — a huge event for the media and entertainment industry.

What’s Next

Which of these solutions will shine the brightest?

Stay with us to find out at WAVES 2025. These tools could change how the world fights fake news — and the teams behind them will get more recognition and support.

Because in today’s digital world — truth is power, and our youth are making sure we don’t lose it.
